Flexiscreen seals out dust and weather for precision fabrication plant

When a US electronics equipment manufacturer needed to achieve an ISO Class 7 cleanroom environment in a new fabrication plant, Westgate Global specified and installed Flexiscreen. The modular panel system hung from existing steelwork and used a unique v-overlap joining method to achieve a seal of over 99% against dust and weather.

Carrying an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating, Flexiscreen delivered a cleanroom environment that met both the contamination control and fire safety requirements of one of the most precision-sensitive manufacturing sectors in the world.

Flexiscreen delivers strict contamination control

Westgate Global recently partnered with a US semiconductor manufacturer. For the markets the manufacturer serves, ensuring the equipment they install is entirely free of contaminants is non-negotiable, making dust and contamination control critical at every stage of their finish-out. To achieve a temporary ISO-certified cleanroom environment in a new fabrication plant, the company turned to Westgate Global.

No dust risk for delicate manufacturing environment

In electronics manufacturing, dust particles and contamination can bridge connections, block pathways, or cause defects in the finished product, leading to expensive wastage. With the manufacturer’s equipment at the heart of the supply chain for some of the most precise and sensitive electronics in the world, ensuring the cleanroom environments were dust-free was critical.

Flexiscreen: a modular solution engineered to meet ISO Class 7

Westgate Global specified and installed Flexiscreen, an engineered, temporary screen designed to achieve ISO Class 7 certification. The system hangs from the building’s structure, allowing quick and easy division of large spaces. Panels were joined using a unique V-overlap system and tensioned and secured to the floor using battens, creating a seal of over 99% against weather and dust – including around ducts, pipes, steelwork, and at ceiling level. The screen material also offers antistatic properties, essential in delicate manufacturing environments where static build-up can damage sensitive components. The installation met ISO Class 7 cleanroom standards, providing the controlled environment the customer required.

Where the roof passed through the wall line, the system was engineered and hung in three intertwined sections, allowing the purlins to be installed through the wall without compromising the seal’s integrity. The finish offered a level of adaptability that no rigid partition system could have delivered.

Flexiscreen was also used to provide wind protection along sections of the warehouse. The screens were engineered to withstand wind loading and the positive air pressure generated inside the facility, ensuring the enclosure performed structurally and environmentally throughout the construction period.

For extra flexibility, roll-up sections were incorporated into the design, allowing machinery to enter without compromising the cleanroom seal. Simple installation and demount meant the system can be removed and relocated cleanly without generating the dust that a traditional construction method would have created.

A flexible screening solution

For a project of this sensitivity, Flexiscreen proved an ideal solution. Its simple installation and demount process meant significantly less disruption and a shorter project timeline, while the v-overlap panel system achieved a superior seal compared to conventional alternatives. For a facility where the consequences of fire would be catastrophic, Flexiscreen also carries an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating, giving the customer confidence that their cleanroom environment is protected from fire and dust.
