Zero downtime: How Westgate Global's partition wall solved a compliance gap for Huel

Huel has become one of the most recognized names in nutrition since launching in 2015. The food brand is built on the promise of manufacturing food that’s good for people and good for the planet. Living up to that promise means having high standards, with nutritionists, food scientists, and quality assurance teams signing off on exacting specifications for every batch. Hitting that bar consistently, at volume, takes serious manufacturing infrastructure.

To meet their goals, Huel opened a purpose-built manufacturing and distribution facility in Milton Keynes, UK, in 2024. From day one, the plant was engineered to meet the company’s zero-compromise approach to quality. Central to the design was a permanent physical barrier isolating the dry powder production zone from the rest of the warehouse, a must-have for meeting strict hygiene and food-safety requirements.

The enclosure installed by the original construction contractor fell short of fire-resistance requirements. Huel needed to act fast, and the replacement had to check three boxes at once: permanent, fully compliant, and installed without pausing production

A tensioned fabric wall built for industrial food environments

Westgate Global started with a full site audit, then specified Flexiwall, a tensioned fabric partition system engineered for large-scale industrial settings. The finished installation spanned roughly 10,800 square feet and achieved a Class B fire rating under the EN 13501-1 European reaction-to-fire standard, while also satisfying the hygiene demands of an active food production environment. 

The team also built in a Fastflex rapid-action door sized for the high-reach forklifts moving through the space, so material flow never had to stop for the wall to go up.

Zero downtime, by design

Flexiwall hangs from the existing structural steel and needs almost no floor space, which let Westgate Global sequence the job in phases. They took down a section of the old enclosure first, then put up the new partition in its place before moving on to the next section. Spread across roughly ten weekends, the entire replacement happened without any disruption to Huel’s production schedule.

Huel now has a permanent, hygienic, fully compliant barrier around its dry powder process area. Unlike the shrink-wrap enclosure it replaced, the Flexiwall partition delivers a lasting, compliant solution without ever slowing down the line.
