Controlling noise, dust and fumes in a manufacturing plant

When Bailey of Bristol invested in new CNC machinery at their award-winning production facility, they needed an industrial partition solution that could handle noise, dust, and fumes without disrupting operations or requiring structural changes to a complex building.

Westgate Global’s Flexiwall delivered exactly that: a custom-designed, height-specific partition wall that contained airborne particles, reduced noise pollution, and maintained temperature control, all while being installed quickly and with minimal downtime.

Noise, dust and fume control in manufacturing for employee safety

Over the past two decades, Bailey of Bristol, a leading caravan and motorhome manufacturer, has invested significantly in its production facility, which is now recognised as one of the most advanced in Europe. When the company purchased new CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, they needed an industrial partition wall that would help to control noise levels for employees working nearby.

The building itself added complexity to the project, featuring high-level radiant tube heating, sprinkler pipework, lighting, and trunking, all of which required a solution which would create a tight seal to minimise noise and dust.

Partition designed to fit a complex industrial space

Westgate Global’s Flexiwall emerged as the ideal solution to address Bailey of Bristol’s unique set of challenges. Designed to adapt to the site’s specific needs, the Flexiwall system was manufactured in Bailey of Bristol’s brand colours and included a pedestrian door and vision panels, ensuring both accessibility and visibility between the two spaces.

Unlike traditional rigid walls, Flexiwall was custom-designed to match the exact height and length of the space, making it uniquely suited to the demands of a large industrial environment. The wall’s flexibility allowed it to accommodate the existing infrastructure without requiring any structural modifications to the building.

High noise levels in industrial settings are a major, often overlooked safety hazard that can cause permanent hearing damage, increase stress, and lead to workplace accidents. Using Flexiwall effectively reduced noise levels, creating a quieter and more comfortable workspace for employees outside the CNC equipment area.

Dust-tight partitioning

With 5,800 wooden furniture panels cut each day, there was also a need to ensure that fumes, woodchippings, and dust were contained within the CNC enclosure. Flexiwall’s 99% dust tight seal minimised the transfer of dust, odours, and airborne particles, keeping the adjacent workspace cleaner and more efficient. It also helped maintain consistent heat levels by preventing heat loss, making it an excellent choice for temperature control.

The Flexiwall system met all the client’s expectations, delivering a durable, long-term solution that aligned perfectly with their budget and operational needs. Its adaptability and quick installation process solidified it as the standout choice for the project. The installation was completed swiftly and caused minimal disruption to daily operations.
